Deadline for Fort McMurray insurance claims extended

The insurance claim deadline for the Fort McMurray Forest fire has been extended.
The fire, which broke out on May 1, 2016 in the southwest of the city of Fort McMurray, devastated, for 15 months, 6000 square kilometers of forest before being extinguished. It is considered as one of the most serious natural disasters in Canadian history. The bill is heavy for insurers who will have spent, in total, more than 2.9 billion USD.

The initial two-year deadline of 2 May 2018 was considered too short in view of the extent of the damage which urged the Alberta minister of finance and the insurance bureau of Canada (LAC) to contact insurers who agreed to extend the insurance claim period until May 2019.
