Death of Reyda Farid Benbouzid, founder of Best Re

Reyda Farid BenbouzidReyda Farid Benbouzid, an emblematic figure of the insurance industry in Algeria and Tunisia, passed away on 21 February 2022 at the age of 80.

The deceased, of Algerian nationality, was born in 1942 in Fez (Morocco). After studying at the Paris Institute of Political Studies and at the National School of Insurance, he returned to Algeria where he joined the Algerian Insurance and Reinsurance Company (CAAR) in 1966, where he became the general manager a few years later. In 1972, he became the Chairman of the Société Nationale d'Assurance (SAA), Algeria.

R. Farid Benbouzid was also a founding member of the Maghreb Arab institute of financing development (IFID) and its first Chairman of the Board of Directors. He created Best Re in 1985, the first Islamic reinsurance company in Tunisia, which he managed for 24 years.
