Disturbing report on global food security

The magazine Sigma has published an alarmist analysis on global food security. Entitled “A partnership for food security in emerging markets”, the study reasserts the necessity to increase agricultural production by 60% in order to feed the world population which is poised to attain 9 billion people by 2050.

According to Swiss Re, this goal is difficult to achieve, in view of the adverse climate effects and the rising prices of nearly 75% since 2005. Agricultural insurance is, nonetheless, poised to soften this bleak picture by playing a key role in helping to achieve an acceptable level of food security.
