Expected State support for cyber risks insurance

The risk of cyber attacks is often underestimated by companies, especially that hyper-connectivity and digital transformation are aggravating factors. In some fields, regulation is pushing companies to incorporate this threat into their risk management strategy. The amount of covers marketed varies between 5 million and 100 million USD.

According to the magazine Sigma published by Swiss Re, cyber attacks may potentially exceed the capacity offered by insurers and reinsurers.
This hypothesis could be realized if the attacks cause a complete disruption of infrastructures and of the so-called critical networks.

According to Swiss Re, State intervention as an insurer or reinsurer of last resort would be judicious. This scheme would be the same as that adopted by certain countries for the insurance of terrorism.
