Exports growth is boosting marine insurance

Japanese non-life insurers are currently experiencing rapid growth in marine insurance. This renewed activity is supported by the weak yen, which promotes exports. In March 2013, Tokio Marine reported an increase of 30.5% at 14.1 billion JPY (149.7 million USD) in marine business.
At Mitsui Sumitomo and Sompo Japan, this progression is respectively 20.3% and 11.2% at 8.7 billion JPY (92 million USD) and 4.4 billion JPY (46.7 million USD). If sustained, these good figures would help insurers to cope with bad results induced by motor insurance.
