César Ekomie-Afene new FANAF President

César Ekomie-Afene, Chairman of the Board of NSIA Assurance Gabon and CEO of NSIA Vie Gabon, was elected President of the African Federation of Insurance Companies (FANAF) on 20 February during the 44th General Assembly of the Pan-African Association. He succeeds the Senegalese Adama Ndiaye, who has been running the organization since 2014.

César Ekomie-AfeneThe race for the FANAF presidency pitted César Ekomie-Afene against Theophile Moulong, General Manager of Saham Assurance Cameroun and President of the Association of Insurance Companies of Cameroon (ASAC).

César Ekomie-Afene, a Gabonese born in October 1953, took his first steps in the world of insurance with Union des Assurances du Gabon (UAG) in 1982. He held the position of CEO between 1993 and 1997.

He pursued his career at the head of AXA Assurances and AXA Vie Assurances in Gabon before finally joining the NSIA Group in 2000. Initially Managing Director and Director of NSIA Assurances Gabon and NSIA Vie Assurances Gabon, C. Ekomie-Afene was appointed Regional Director for Central Africa of the NSIA Group in 2014. In 2017 he becomes chairman of the Board of Directors of NELSON RE, the NSIA Group’s reinsurance company.

Promoted to the NSIA Foundation from 2015 to 2016, César Ekomie-Afene is currently director of NSIA Assurances in Gabon, Congo and Senegal. As a fundamental participant in the Gabonese insurance industry, he was Chairman of the Gabonese Federation of Insurance Companies (FEGASA) between 1987 and 2000 as well as a member of the Gabonese Economic and Social Council from 2001 to 2010.

His experience at FANAF began in 2002 as Vice President, a position he held for six years. From 2009 to 2010, he was appointed 6th vice-president of the Gabonese Employers' Confederation.
