Flashback on the Fukushima catastrophe

The overall cost of the Fukushima catastrophe is, one year after, still estimated by Sigma at 35 billion USD. This toll pertains only to the material damages and to business interruption. Losses due to personal line and third party liability insurance are not included in this estimate.

Munich Re and AIG stand among the reinsurers hardest hit with respectively 3.9 billion USD and 3.3 billion USD. Partner Re is affected up to 600 million USD whereas Scor estimates its loss at 368 million EUR (483 million USD), gross of retrocession.
