Ford: Cheaper insurance in exchange for driving data

FordFord, in partnership with the American insurer Nationwide, is offering discounts on motor insurance rates of up to 40% of the premium. In return, the owner of the vehicle allows the car manufacturer and its partner to collect and use data on his driving behaviour: speeding, braking, distance traveled, etc.

Data provided by Ford vehicle users is of significant value to both the manufacturer and the insurer. It allows the insurance rate to be adjusted according to the driving parameters. Available in 39 American States, the Ford offer does not yet extend to New York and Washington.
