French insurance is recovering

After two years of decline, the French insurance industry recorded good results in 2013. According to preliminary figures released by the French federation of insurance companies (FFSA), direct business increased by 4.46% from 181.4 billion EUR (239.7 billion USD) in 2012 to 189.5 billion EUR (260.9 billion USD) in 2013.

The market is still dominated by life insurance which totals 139.1 billion EUR (191.5 billion USD ) of premiums with an annual increase of 5%. Also note the significant drop in incurred losses going from 168.9 billion EUR (223.2 billion USD ) in 2012 to 160.2 billion EUR ( 220.5 billion USD) in 2013, that is a decrease of 5%.
