In 2019, the French insurance market ranked 5th in the world with a premium volume of 228 billion EUR (255.32 billion USD), preceded by the United States, China, Japan and the United Kingdom.
Life insurance also occupies the 5th position in the world, while property and casualty insurance is ranked 7th.

French insurance market position at European level in 2019
In Europe, France comes in second place, preceded by the United Kingdom whose turnover amounted to 366.243 billion USD.
In non-life insurance, France ranks 4th in Europe with a premium volume of 58.6 billion EUR (65.6 billion USD), trailing behind Germany (142.3 billion USD), the UK (102 billion USD) and the Netherlands (69 billion USD).
With 169.4 billion EUR (189.7 billion USD) of premiums, life insurance is in second place of the European market behind the United Kingdom.
