Galileo satellites serving insurers

On 17 November 2016 at 13:06 (Greenwich), four Galileo satellites will be launched from Ariane 5 ES. They will join the 14 others already in orbit. A total of 30 satellites will be required to get the Galileo program fully operational.

By this program, the European Union aims at developping a global navigation satellite system better than that of GPS. Galileo will be of great use in various fields: Transport, farming, rescue and first aid, as well as insurance.

In the insurance sector, the program could be the source of new conditions in terms of policy and premium. Indeed, satellites have the ability to monitor precious commodities (gold bars, bank notes, works of art, etc.) which will considerably reduce the risk of theft or loss.
