Generali has reached a premiums volume of 70 billion EUR ( 101 billion USD)

Thanks to the good performance of life insurance and the French market, the Italian insurer has attained a turnover of 70.53 billion EUR (101 billion USD) that is a progression of 6.2% in 2009 and a net profit of 1.3 billion EUR (1.86 billion USD), a growth of 52%. Despite a difficult economic situation, thegroup has outrun the Analysts' expectations. The preliminary results highlight the role of life insurance which witnessed a 9.5% growth at 48.89 billion EUR (70 billion USD). This is particularly true in the French market where the volume of life premiums increased by 16.3% at 12.3 billion EUR (17.6 billion USD). The combined ratio has grown from 94.4% in 2008 to 98.3% in 2009.
