Global Climate Risk Index 2019 : African countries facing climate disasters

Germanwatch organization has recently published its Global Climate Risk Index 2019. The study provides a ranking of 180 countries, ranked according to the amount of losses from extreme weather events and the ensuing number of annual fatalities.

Africa climate disasters In 2017, Puerto Rico, Sri Lanka and the Dominican Republic were countries most impacted by climate-related disasters. In Africa, Madagascar (earthquakes), Sierra Leone (landslides) and Niger (torrential rains) were the most affected countries of the continent.

Atlas Magazine is publishing, here below, the list of African countries affected by climate damage in 2017 ⁽¹⁾.

⁽¹⁾ Ranking performed according to the following method: 1/6 of the number of deaths + 1/3 of the number of deaths per 100.000 inhabitants + 1/6 of the amount of losses + 1/3 of the losses per unit GDP
