Grenfell Tower fire, a heavy human and material toll

The human toll of the Grenfell Tower fire, which devastated in the night of 13 to 14 June 2017 the 27-storey building is heavy. To date, the number of dead and missing persons amounts to 58. This figure is likely to increase with 24 additional people still hospitalized, including 12 in critical condition.

The material toll is also expected to be heavy. According to the Norwegian insurer Protector Forsikring, insured losses would be of 25 million GBP (32 million USD). The cost of the building, which housed 600 people in 120 apartments, is estimated at 20 million GBP (26 million USD).

Several renowned reinsurers are involved in this disaster: Munich Re, PartnerRe, Hannover Re and the Lloyd's syndicates Amlin and Aspen.
