Heavy toll continues to rise after the thunderstorms and severe weather that hit the country

Since 23 December 2015, the south United States has been hit hard by extreme weather events. Rising water and wind gusts have claimed the lives of 43 pesons and injured over 100 others.

Severe weather has also caused considerable material damage. The economic losses could reach 1 billion USD while insured ones are expected to reach several hundred million USD.

In the only region of the centre of Texas, there are more than 1 000 damaged buildings and 52 000 homes without electricity.
