Tornadoes in the United States : estimate of insured losses

The latest tornadoes that hit several states in central and southern United States are expected to generate between 3 and 7 billion USD in insured losses.

During the night of 10 December 2021, extremely strong tornadoes have crossed five states, mainly Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri. This disaster is considered one of the worst series of tornadoes in the country's history.

The storm caused the death of at least 88 people and destroyed several buildings including an Amazon warehouse in Illinois. In Tennessee, thousands of people were left without electricity.

The epicenter of the disaster was located in Mayfield, Kentucky. This town of 10 000 inhabitants alone recorded no less than 74 deaths.
