Hong Kong, the umbrella uprising is costing insurers 129 million USD

According to Hong Kong Insurance Practitioners General Union, the insurance business has sustained about 129 million USD of losses following the pro-democracy protests that broke out on 26 September 2014.

The said umbrella revolution has led to a decline in the number of tourists, especially from China. These tourists account for 18% to 20% of insurance policy sales in Hong Kong. That is how insurance agents came to notice the 20% decrease of their underwritings.
