Increase in the cost of 2018 natural disasters in France

natural disastersAccording to estimates by the Caisse Centrale de Réassurance (CCR), the cost of 2018 natural disasters for French insurers amounts to 1.8 billion EUR (2 billion USD). This is the fourth most hard-hit year since 1946.

The disasters that occurred in France were numerous and costly. For example, the floods of the Hérault, Tarn and Aude claimed the lives of 14 people and cost 140 million EUR (160 million USD) to insurers. In addition, the previous year was also the hottest since 1900, with an average annual temperature above 1.4 °c to the normal one.

Finally 2018 ended, for the third consecutive year, with a catastrophe loss experience higher than the premiums collected for this type of risk.
