Indemnifying victims of the post-electoral violence

Kenya Orient Insurance Company has started indemnifying victims of the post-electoral violence which gripped the country in January and February 2008. The company has provided for a first package amounting to 20 million KES (309 000 USD). Although the victims are not specifically insured against political risks, the company decided to indemnify the whole losses incurred following case studies.
On its part, Co-operative Insurance Company (CIC) is likely to disburse approximately 100 million KES (1.5 million USD) for the damage related to the same event.
