Insurance against the Loch Ness monster

The Loch Ness monster, a mythical creature that inspired several authors and directors, has for decades attracted tourists to the Highlands in Scotland. An entire economy has been built around this myth.

In September 2007, a duathlon was organized on the banks of Loch Ness. As a precaution, the organizers of the sporting event have underwritten an insurance policy with Royal Sun Alliance in case Nessy (the lake monster) would attack one of the participants. In the event of an incident, the insurer was ready to compensate the victim for an amount of 1.9 million USD.
