Insurance and short-time work footballers

FootballFootball players from the two French professional leagues are placed in confinement and exempted from training until further notice. However, they are still receiving their full salaries.

Due to the circumstances of national quarantine and the lack of financial income, most football clubs have put their administrative staff on short-time work. If this situation persists, players could also be placed on short-time work.

The unemployment benefit provided for by the legislation is up to 4.5 times the minimum wage, that is 5.485.5 EUR (5.886 USD) net per month. Insurance companies would then be asked to pay the rest of the footballers' salaries. This alternative might not be possible as the coronavirus epidemic is not yet considered a force majeure by insurers.
