Insurance legislation reforms

Thirteen articles of the insurance code have been reviewed in January 2009. This reform accommodates Moroccan legislation to fit in with the requirements included in the free trade agreements ratified by Morocco. According to the new legislation, foreign insurers and reinsurers may open branch offices in Morocco where they can do business without obligation to have a headquarter there. Moroccan authorities, however, shall reserve the right to regulate and control these branch offices.
