Insurance merger-acquisition operations: 2018 sounds quite busy

Following a period of stagnation, the merger-acquisition operations are restarting in earnest in 2018. The sums of the operations already announced during the first quarter of the year amounted to 17.5 billion USD.

The most important transaction is the one achieved by French insurer AXA with the takeover of its competitor XL Group. The move, amounting to 15.6 billion USD, is the most onerous since 2015, the year when American Chubb was acquired by its competitor ACE for the amount of 28 billion USD.

Through theses initiatives, insurers seek to consolidate their financial base in order to withstand more risks and face the new challenges threatening their business.
