Insurers affected by harsh winter

According to Munich Re, the 2014/2015 winter that has just ended caused 2.3 billion USD in damages to US insurers. This amount is 200 million USD less than that observed during the 2013/2014 winter.

This estimate is based on the 11 winter storms reported. The last snowfall that blocked much of the country, alone, set the economy back 3.2 billion USD. The difference between the insured losses and the economic losses is of 900 million USD for the 2014/2015 winter period. This figure was 1.9 billion USD during the 2013/2014 winter.

This difference is accounted for by the importance of the penetration rate in the affected areas, particularly in the northeast of the country. According to Munich Re, the 2014/2015 winter that has just ended caused 2.3 billion USD in damages to US insurers.
