Insurers are making the toll of the Morakot typhoon at the beginning of August

The floods triggered by Morakot typhoon are the worst ever to be witnessed by the country during the recent 50 years. The government has provided a 3.3 billion USD package for reconstruction.
Insurers, on their part, are taking stock of their losses. Central Re, Taiwan's only reinsurer, is still overwhelmed by claims. Thanks to its retrocession covers, Central Re remains confident as to the impact of the catastrophe on its finance.
