Japan: insurers authorized to cover infertility treatments

In an effort to slow down ongoing downtrend of birth rates, the Japanese government has authorized public insurance companies to cover the expenses for infertility treatment, a measure due to come into effect as of next spring. Some of these costs are already subsidized by the state or by municipalities.

Since 2013, financial authorities have underscored the need to lift this ban. No progress has been made ever since because of the lack of statistics regarding treatments designed to counter infertility.
