Investment, an alternative to offset the decline in insurers' profits

Low interest rates and difficult market conditions are putting direct pressure on the profitability of insurance companies.

To offset their declining profits, insurers are moving more and more towards financial investments. A survey conducted by BlackRock among 300 insurance executives reveals that 66% of the interviewees consider the investment as a key activity. This rate was only 28% a few years earlier.

In terms of risk perception, geopolitical tensions and rising protectionism are among the most worrisome risks for 71% of respondents. This rate was 51% in 2016.

The increasing regulatory restrictions, abundant liquidity and price volatility are also among the threats.
