Investment and pandemic risks threaten Swiss Re's business

The level of interest rates and the risk of a pandemic are the biggest threat to the profitability of Swiss Re.

According to Christian Mumenthaler, CEO of the Swiss reinsurer, a sudden change in interest rates could threaten the financial balance of the company and in the worst case , cause an erosion of its capital.

The pandemic risk also poses a threat to Swiss Re. A severe influenza epidemic, comparable to that of 1918, known as the "Spanish flu", would have a significant impact on the company's life insurance activity.
