Iran initiates Covid-19 vaccination campaign

vaccinOn Tuesday, 9 February 2021, Iran, the country most affected by the pandemic in the Middle East, began its vaccination campaign against Covid-19. On the 4th of this month, the country received the first shipments of Sputnik V, the Russian Covid-19 vaccine.

The medical corps was the first to be vaccinated. Priority will later be given to people over 65 years of age and those with chronic diseases.

Tehran is scheduled to receive two more batches of the Russian vaccine on 18 and 28 February 2021. In total, Iran has ordered two million doses of Sputnik V. The country will also receive 4.2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine via Covax this month.
