Lloyd's turns its back on the NRA

Lloyd's of London has decided to cease the underwriting activities with the National Rifle Association (NRA), the US gun lobby.

The group has ordered its partners to no longer underwrite any contract for the association and its members and to terminate the existing ones.

Lloyd's decision was announced after insurer Chubb was fined 1.3 million USD by the New York authorities. The charges related to the underwriting of third party liability insurance policies under the NRA Carry Guard program.

This program was abandoned by several insurers after the death of 17 people during the shooting of Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Florida, on February 14, 2018. It allows the subscription of a third party liability insurance policy and legal recourse to persons having intentionally committed crimes.
