Microinsurance, sales via the telephone

The phone operator MTN (South Africa) has authorized the sale of life insurance policies over mobile phones. This offer is designed for the poorest Ghanaians. It was designed in collaboration with the insurer Hollard. MTN intends to extend this initiative to other markets.
To launch its offer, the telephone operator relied on a study carried out by Lloyd's and dating back to 2009 which deems that the number of the potential of such policies in the emerging markets amounts to 1.5 billion.
