More than 2300 deaths on the roads each year

Nearly a million vehicles are circulating in Yemen. Road mortality is rising to 2300 victims per year on average, that is nearly one dead per 400 vehicles.

Statistics for the past five years have reported 13 360 deaths and 76 074 wounded. Between 2000 and 2010, nearly 30 000 Yemenis have lost their lives on the road while 200 000 got injured.
These disastrous figures are accounted for by non-compliance with traffic rules, speeding and lack of vigilance on part of the pedestrians. The roads are of poor quality and hardly maintained.
Apart from the vehicles belonging to the state, corporations and international organizations, those held by Yemenis are generally not insured.
