Algeria, most exporters do not have insurance coverage

Algeria accounts for 1240 of natural or legal persons recorded in the commercial register as exporters. Only 500 of them are involved in genuine export operations while 200 are exporting on a regular basis.

According to Compagnie Algérienne d’Assurance et de Garantie des Exportations (Algerian company for insurance and export coverage) (CAGEX), only one third of the 500 exporters listed is insured for the total amounts exported not exceeding 15 billion DZD (140 million USD).

For the insurer, the authorities are required to encourage the underwriting of export insurance even if the latter is optional. Cagex has also asked for the opening of liaison offices abroad in order to facilitate export procedures.
