Motor insurance fraud is costly for insurers

The insurance fraud in Tunisia affects all life and non life insurance.
Most embezzlements involve the motor class of business that is affected by the overstatement of the amount of damage during insurance claims, the intentional loss as well as the falsification of the insurance contract. Over 300 cases of fictitious accidents were revealed by the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA).

Note that, the motor insurance posted a high loss ratio. It is behind most of the losses recorded by insurance companies. According to Lotfi Bezzarga, vice president of the FTUSA, the year 2014 recorded 7971 road accidents, causing 1 565 fatalities and 13 354 injuries.

For the two-wheeled vehicles, the loss ratio is estimated at almost 400%, according to L. Bezzarga. It should be noted that, only 8.57% of motorcyclists riding on the territory are insured.

To cope with this scourge, the actors involved have undertaken reforms particularly in the establishment of a fraud-fighting agency whose mission is the control and the prevention at the underwriting of insurance policies as well as the claims management.
