Motor insurance in France: Average premium constantly increasing

PrimeLeLynx.fr, an online insurance comparator, publishes the "Car Insurance Barometer". The report highlights a 2.9% increase in the average motor insurance premium in 2019.

Over five years, this increase reaches 12%. The average cost of a motor guarantee amounts to 632 EUR (708 USD) in France. However, price disparities can be detected between regions. For example, the average premium for motor insurance in Marseille is 808 EUR (904 USD) while it is only 585 EUR (655 USD) in Nantes.

In Paris and Lyon, the average is 708 EUR (793 USD). This uptrend is due to a variety of reasons. On the one hand, the cost of spare parts and repairs has risen by 6.5%. On the other hand, the French tend to buy new, well-equipped vehicles, making them more expensive to insure.

Another important point is that policyholders prefer the all-risks insurance packages for maximum protection in the event of loss.
