Natural disasters in Canada: insured losses in 2021
The Insurance Bureau of Canada reports that the insured losses caused by natural disasters reached 2.1 billion CAD (1.6 billion USD) in 2021. It is the sixth costliest year for local insurers since 1983.
The floods in British Columbia in November were considered as the costliest of the year. They generated a total of 515 million CAD (411 million USD) of insured damage.
This event was followed by the Calgary hailstorm and the Eastern Canada hailstorm with insured losses of 500 million CAD (399 million USD) and 152 million CAD (121 million USD) respectively.
