Injured in February 2018 during clasico PSG-OM, Neymar has been hospitalized in Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Which insurance cover is taken out by the PSG to guarantee their number 10? The answer is here below.

Neymar disability and loss of wage insurance

As it is for anyone who has suffered an accident at work, Neymar receives daily allowances from the French social security system, that is 245 to 326 USD per day. In the event that the disability lasted until the end of March, the player would receive a total of nearly 18.500 USD from social security insurance, a paltry amount for a footballer whose gross monthly salary is 3.7 million USD.

Neymar will not have to alter his lifestyle. The PSG will pay him the difference between his salary and the daily allowances. According to article 276 of the charter of the professional football league (Ligue de Football Professionnelle), the club shall pay a full salary supplement, for a quarter, in case of incapacity of a player. Beyond this period, the personal insurance of the player shall take over the payment.

But that will not be the case for Neymar. As for any football star, a "No Cut" clause is surely included in his contract. The latter guarantees the payment of the player's salary until the end of his contract, even in case of injury or death.

While some clubs underwrite an insurance covering a supplement of salary to the players in the event of invalidity, the Paris Saint-Germain prefer to take care of the compensation of their own sportsmen. This does not represent any particular extra cost for the club.

Neymar physically unable, PSG is insured against the loss of earnings

For a club as prestigious as the PSG, the unavailability of a football star represents a loss of value and image. Neymar is certainly bought to win games but also to wear the jersey of the team. The presence of renowned players on the football pitch brings money to the club in various ways: advertising, sale of jerseys, ticketing, etc.

All major clubs have taken the habit of purchasing an insurance policy to reduce the loss of earnings in the event of death, permanent incapacity or loss of license of a key player. The premium generally represents 0.5 to 1.5% of the sum insured. It is calculated on the basis of the purchase value and the market value of the player. The latter is around 308 million USD for the case of Neymar.

The PSG is today getting insured with Lloyd's. Its members are covered for an amount between 985 million and 1.23 billion USD.
