Opening the market to competition

The insurance market of the Democratic republic of Congo will be opened to competition. It is during the inaugural session of the 34thgeneral assembly of FANAF, held in Kinshasa from February 7 to 11, 2010 that the liberalization of the sector was announced. Foreign insurers will be able to get established and operate in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Moreover, SONAS' capital, a state-run company having a monopoly over insurance since its creation in 1968, will be open to foreign investors. In 2008, SONAS posted a turnover amounting to 60 011 857 USD, 86% of which in the motor class of business.
