Over 90 deaths from fires in Greece

The toll of the disaster that hit Greece on July 23, 2018 is increasing: 93 people died as a result of the fires that ravaged the surroundings of Mati, a tourist village thirty kilometers from Athens. Nearly 500 homes were destroyed by fires and 25 people are still missing.

According to the Greek government, the fire is believed to be of criminal origin. More than 300 firefighters were deployed on the scene in an effort to contain the blaze. An investigation has been initiated to look into the causes of the disaster.
