Paid covid-19-related claims for Emirati insurers in 2021

covid-19-related claimsAccording to the data published by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), Emirati insurers have paid, in 2021, 790 million AED (215.052 million USD) for Covid-19 claims. This amount is decreased by 1.25% compared to 800 million AED (217.775 million USD) paid in 2020.

The decrease of the loss experience happened despite an increased level of exposure due to the resumption of economic activities, travels and the lifting of lockdowns.

As a reminder, the CBUAE has assumed, since 2021, a role of supervision and control of the insurance sector. This initiative follows the government's decision to merge the insurance supervisory authority and the Central Bank.
