Qatar Airways says Boeing should drop the 737 MAX

BoeingAkbar Al Baker, President of Qatar Airways, suggested that Boeing should switch to a new medium-haul route and drop the 737 MAX. For Al Baker, the model's reputation remains tarnished by the two tragic air crashes of Lion Air in October 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines in March 2019.

Other experts suggest changing the name of the aircraft to make people forget about the company’s past incidents, an opinion refuted by the president of Qatar Airways.

The estimated cost for replacing the medium-haul 737 MAX with a newer model is of 15 billion USD. This is a significant sum for an aircraft manufacturer already facing financial difficulties.

For the record, the 737 MAX initiated its new flight test program in Europe on 7 September 2020.
