Reinsurance: Legal cession project in Namibia

The law on reinsurance legal cession in Namibia is subject to debate. In early 2017, the Ministry of Finance introduced a bill to cede 18% of each insurance policy issued or renewed by insurers to NamibRe. The latter has staged a protest against this form of legal cession.

Insurance companies have expressed dissatisfaction with this directive, adding that the State does not have the required capacity to manage insurance policies.
