Remote working: falling out of bed on the way to one' s office is now a workplace accident

The Federal Social Court in Germany has ruled in favor of a man who tripped on the stairs in his own house while walking from his bed to his office located one floor below his bedroom.

Only after he finished his morning work and had breakfast did he usually leave his house to get to his actual office. Technically, the employee is covered along the first trip to work.

Prior to this decision, two courts could not decide whether this short trip could be considered a commute. The employer's insurance refused to cover the claim.
