Resolutions of the 43rd FANAF General Assembly

The 43rd General Assembly of the African Federation of Insurance Companies (FANAF) which was held in Tunis closed its work on 21 February 2019. After five days of debate, this annual meeting allowed the members of the Executive Board to adopt a number of resolutions.

43rd FANAF General Assembly: training and partnerships, two main ideas

fanafElected in 2014, then renewed in 2017, the FANAF current Executive Board presented its programme of activities for the year 2019. According to Adama Ndiaye, FANAF President, this program ensures the association's continuity as it takes over the objectives defined previously with two main ideas: training and partnerships.

As far as vocational training is concerned, two seminars are scheduled for executives of insurance companies. A study trip or a summer school will be organized for companies' top management. South Africa or Dubai, are proposed for a study tour whose theme is "managerial efficiency of a leader".

For partnerships, FANAF and the African Development Bank will jointly organize a one-day meeting dedicated to finance.

43rd FANAF General Assembly: the resolutions

The closing session of the 43rd General Assembly of the FANAF was marked by the traditional reading of the resolutions, which we summarize below:

  • Approval of the activity report for the year 2018.
  • Adoption of the work schedule of the Executive Board for 2019.
  • Adoption of the resolution relative to the acquisition of the Federation's headquarters premises. The objective is to acquire a work platform of 200 to 250 m2 for a budget of 250 million FCFA. This amount will be taken out of the available cash.
  • Validation of membership applications for:
    • five non life insurance companies: East Africa Global Insurance Company Non Vie (EGIC-NV), Atlantique Assurances Cameroon, Royal Onyx Insurance, Africaine des Assurances Congo (AAC), CARTE Assurances Tunisia
    • One life insurance company: CARTE Vie Tunisia
    • Two reinsurance representation offices: Hannover Re Côte d’Ivoire and Helvetia Assurances Senegal.
  • Registration of withdrawal of the companies: DAMANE Aassurances Mauritania, AXA Assuurance Maroc and WAFA IMA Assistance Maroc.
  • Suspension for non-payment of contributions for : Assurance Mutuelle Agricole Benin (AMAB), MUTRAGUI Guinea Conakry, PRIME Insurance Rwanda, SAHAM Assurance Rwanda, Fonds de Garantie Automobile (FGA) Rwanda and Phoenix of Rwanda Assurance Company SARL.
  • Liquidation of: Samaritan Insurance Cameroon, Tropical Assurances Côte d’Ivoire, CIA Assurance Côte d’Ivoire and FEDAS Benin.

At the invitation of the Gabonese Federation of Insurance Companies, the next FANAF general assembly will be held in February 2020 in Libreville, Gabonese Republic.
