The Egyptian insurance industry: 2016 results

The Egyptian insurance market recorded a turnover of 18.2 billion EGP (2 billion USD) during the fiscal year 2015-2016, up by 12.4% compared to the 16.2 billion EGP (2.1 billion USD) reported in the previous year.

It is life insurance which posted the most important growth (+ 13.4%) with 8.3 billion EGP (941.5 million USD). Non-life insurance, on the other hand, increased by 11.5%, which corresponds to an inflow of 9.9 billion EGP (1.12 billion USD).
Net income from investments rose slightly from 4.825 million EGP (630.9 million USD) in 2015 to 4.830 million EGP (547.9 million USD) one year later. The level of market retention was 57% compared to 55% in the previous year.

It should be noted that at 30 June 2016, the Egyptian market count 35 insurance companies, 14 of which life insurers and 21 non-life ones.
