Revolutionary mask glows upon contact with Covid-19
Japanese researchers have succeeded in producing a face mask that can detect Covid-19. Upon contact with the virus, the fabric instantly glows under UV light. A mixture of fluorescent dye and antibodies extracted from ostrich eggs was used to give this characteristic to the fabric.
This innovative mask has been tested on 33 people. Further tests will be carried out on 150 other volunteers.
This invention could soon replace the PCR or antigenic test. Scientists from Kyoto Prefectural University plan to submit their invention to the Japanese government for potential marketing in 2022.
