Rising turnover for the African aviation pool

The African aviation pool achieved a turnover of 5.9 million USD in 2010 versus 5.6 million USD in 2009. The pool, managed by Africa Re, has been set up at the request of the AIO to promote trade between African countries. It accepts the risks of 52 African airlines and has an underwriting capacity of 8 million USD per risk.

The loss of 3.3 million USD in 2010 is accounted for by the rise in claims and most especially by the crashes of Ethiopian Airlines and Afriqiyah Airlines (Libya). In 2009, the pool reported a profit of 2.44 million USD.
