Road crashes weigh down the economy of GCC

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is intent on the establishment of a surveillance system to track speeding, an initiative that is set to be introduced in all member countries. This move is all the more important given that the region accounts for a high concentration of road accidents.

According to official statistics, every hour, one person dies in a road accident in the countries of the region. On average, this scourge claims the lives of 9000 people and leaves 38 000 injured every year. The average annual economic losses reported by this calamity are estimated at more than 7.2 billion USD.
