Road safety: mandatory super speed limiters to be used as of 2024
The European Commission has approved a bill whereby all new vehicles are to be equipped with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) as of July 2024. This decision aims to reduce car accidents and death on the roads.
The super speed limiter will be able to recognize road signs and will use, among other things, navigation mapping data. If the speed limit is exceeded, the system will trigger an audible signal, a vibratory warning, automatic speed control or hardening of the accelerator pedal, prompting the driver to slow down.
ISA also acts as a black box to anonymously analyze the circumstances of accidents.
It is worth noting that this security system is activated by default, when the vehicle starts, but can be deactivated by the driver.
