Sanlam and Allianz towards a strategic rapprochement
The Sanlam and Allianz groups are studying different strategic options for their respective activities in Africa (excluding South Africa). These alternatives could lead to a large transaction between the two partners. No further information has been disclosed on the nature and details of the negotiations.
Allianz is currently present in twelve countries in Africa, including Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal. In 2019, the German insurer sold five of its African subsidiaries in Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo and the Central African Republic to the SUNU group.
The group achieved a turnover of 130.359 billion USD in 2020.
